Introduction to the GPT-9800: A New Series of Safety Testers

GW Instek is introducing a new series of high-durability safety testers (hi-pot testers/hipot testers) with multiple user protection features. The GPT-9800 is designed to meet major compliance requirements for safety standards such as IEC, EN, UL, CSA, GB, JIS, and other safety regulations.

Available Models

The Safety testers consists of four different models: GPT-9804, GPT-9803, GPT-9802, and GPT-9801, each tailored for various applications. The GPT-9804 is a 4-in-1 model capable of performing AC withstanding, DC withstanding, insulation resistance, and ground bond tests. The GPT-9803 is a 3-in-1 model designed to perform AC withstanding, DC withstanding, and insulation resistance tests. The GPT-9802 focuses on AC and DC withstanding tests, while the GPT-9801 is limited to performing AC withstanding tests. All models in the GPT-9800 Series are built on a high-efficiency PWM amplifier platform with a maximum output capacity of 200VA in AC to mitigate the impact of fluctuations in the input AC source, ensuring stable voltage supply for all tests.

User Protection: Safety-Focused Design

To ensure user safety, the GPT-9800 series integrates both hardware and software safety controls. Each time the tester is powered on, a self-check function verifies that all systems are operating normally. The Zero Crossing Turn-On feature ensures that output voltage begins only at the zero crossing point of the sine wave, avoiding surge voltage. Additionally, the output voltage is automatically cut off (within 150μs) when abnormal voltages or current limits are detected during testing. To further protect operators, the GPT-9800 Series discharges the DUT (Device Under Test) automatically after each test (within 200ms) to eliminate any residual voltage. An interlock connector provides double protection against accidental operation.

User-Friendly Interface and Advanced Features

The GPT-9800 features a simple and clear panel layout, a high-resolution dot matrix LCD display, and color LED indicators, enabling operators to interpret measurement results quickly and easily. Major test functions, including AC withstanding (5kV/40mA), DC withstanding (6kV/10mA), insulation resistance (DC 50V to 1000V), and ground bond (max. 30A AC), are conducted under stable voltage output with high-resolution measurement results. Additionally, the test duration, ramp-up time, and upper/lower voltage limits are fully adjustable, accommodating a wide range of safety tests with precise measurements.

Additional Functions and Connectivity

The GPT-9800 also includes practical features such as open circuit detection for ground bond testing to ensure accurate results. It provides 100 memory slots to store panel settings, which can be recalled for individual tests or for automatic sequential testing. A remote output on/off terminal on the front panel and a signal I/O port on the rear panel enable remote start/stop control of the tester. RS-232C, USB, and optional GPIB interfaces are available for PC remote control and test result logging.
